The New Year brings about new resolutions for people. It represents a new beginning, a casting off of the old. It's a time to look forward, not back and explore the possibilities each day has to offer.
It's good to have a new beginning. It is no use to fret over past mistakes or issues. There is always a time to move forward and a new calendar can help us accomplish our real goals in life.
For believers, too. the New Year can bring new resolutions that help us grow in grace, wisdom and service.
To grow in grace we need to make the commitment to read and reflect on the Word of God daily - it truly has the power to form our hearts anew. Along with the Word of God we need to be more thankful than ever for all the gifts and opportunities each day brings.
In regards to Wisdom, the commitment to learn to listen more to others is primary. Wisdom comes in many different forms and the Wisdom that God has already placed in the world can guide us still. If we but listen for it. Wisdom, too, is learned. Through study, exploring new areas of inquiry and just plain old reading a good book, we can learn how others deal with life, how precious life really is, how much we need to cherish each day. Wisdom is putting our faith into action.
Finally, service is the point on which our lives become richer and more fulfilling. All our acts of service to the poor or to others places our hearts and hands and voices exactly where Jesus wants them. Service means we give our best to others without expecting return. Service means we are hands and heart of Christ and we follow him because we love him.
As we enter the calendar year 2022, let God guide you. He will show you his hand working in the world and grant you his peace. He is always with us. Now, go, and be with God people and bring Good News to them.
